Yogi-isms

When I was in the college, I bought a quotation book. Many quotes in it were funny, practical and profound.

But one quote stayed in my mind.

It read: "
You can observe a lot just by watching"

It was by someone called Yogi Berra.

The very simplicity of the words belied its deepest implications. Soon, I ventured to learn about this "Yogi"....and was surprised to find that he was not "Yogi" at all. He was Lawrence Peter, a successful baseball player and (later) a manager many years ago....In stark contrast to the depth of his sayings, he was considered to be a simpleton! "Yogi" was only his nickname!

Nevertheless....going thru many of his sayings (given below), I am convinced that he is a blessed person who has been chosen to deliver some of the most insightful thoughts in human history.

Famous quotes:

"
The future ain't what it used to be.

If people don't want to come to the ball park, how are you going to stop them?

It ain't over till it's over.

It gets late early out there.

It's like déjà vu all over again.

Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

If the world were perfect, it wouldn't be.
"

One of my favorites:

"If you come to a fork in the road, take it."

Context:

Berra said that this is part of some driving directions to his house. In his hometown of Montclair, New Jersey, there is a fork in the road and either way you take, you will get to his house.

Explanation:

The deeper aspect of this quote is that...whatever or however we may chose our lives to be...the destination will be the same. Religion, race, nationality, gender, ethnicity and other parameters are mere paths taken when those decision were made. In the eternal scheme of things, paths don't change the destination.

Words

Not until
Pealing the onion
To the last petal
Did I get to find
The meaning
